Kettle Volunteer Transforms into Santa During Campaign

“Lo and behold, I lucked out.” That’s how Gabe Bakos explains what followed after his wife, Linda, suggested that he volunteer at The Salvation Army Christmas Kettles.

Linda’s family had a long tradition within The Salvation Army church. When Gabe married her almost four years ago, he says he knew, as do most people, about the kettles and the shelter. But he admits he had no idea there was a church, let alone children’s camps, an international disaster response team, community […]

Brent's Kettle volunteering story

Kettle Volunteer Loves the Stories

In 1998, Brent Smith moved to Marlborough in northeast Calgary. “I had a professional job, but money was still really tight,” he explains. “I couldn’t really give to the charities I supported, but I could donate my time.”

Almost two decades later, Brent will continue to be a familiar face around The Salvation Army Christmas Kettles. He comes back because of the friends he has made and the positive experiences that have touched him. He also knows that it is a great […]

One Amazing Christmas Kettle Shift

Cathie Hays admits she wasn’t expecting much that day when she showed up for her shift at The Salvation Army’s Christmas Kettle inside a suburban mall. She had been a kettle volunteer for about five years and she knew that this particular location wasn’t one of the busiest. She resigned herself to a slow few hours.

“I’m one of those people who always says God has His plan,” Cathie explains. “And I didn’t know The Salvation Army Band was coming in […]

Kettle Campaigner: Making a Difference

By her own admission, Jacci Bibeau is one fussy volunteer. “I do a lot of research before I do anything. I have to know it’s making a difference and that the money goes where it’s supposed to go."

The Salvation Army passed Bibeau’s scrutiny with flying colours, but that’s not the only factor that keeps her at her station five days a week during the Christmas Kettle Campaign. “I enjoy it. I love talking to people. I heard some incredible stories […]

Edmonton’s 2014 Christmas Kettle Campaign saw well over 300 volunteers ring the bells at 42 kettle locations across the city, bringing in $520,000 for The Salvation Army’s Community & Family Services (CFS)! Help Give Hope Today By Volunteering This Christmas

The Salvation Army’s annual Christmas Kettle Campaign begins across the country Thursday, November 13th, and ends on Christmas Eve at noon. Many volunteers are needed to help us reach our goal; can you spare a few hours this Christmas season to volunteer at one of our kettles? How about volunteering with your child, or grandchild? It’s a simple and fun way to introduce charity to youngsters, and teach them about volunteer service, and helping those in need.
