Hundreds of men gathered outside The Salvation Army Centre of Hope on Monday, November 4, 2013 to receive a warm coat from The Salvation Army. Calgary Stampeders, Drew Tate and Brandon Smith stopped by and helped many of the men find just the right coat. Salvation Army Serving First Responders At Calgary Train Derailment


The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) team is getting plenty of opportunity to be of service this year. On Wednesday, September 11, The Salvation Army in Calgary was called into action after a CP train carrying a flammable liquid used in oil pipelines derailed. Eight rail cars left the tracks and six flipped on their side. A natural gas line also ruptured during the incident.

On Thursday, July 4th, Colonels Mark and Sharon Tillsley arrived in Calgary, Alberta to tour some of the areas that were hit by the flood waters.

The city of Calgary evacuated over 100,000 people due to flooding and suffered significant damage to the downtown core, there was growing concern that the 101st Calgary Stampede would not happen. However, countless volunteers and city workers worked tirelessly so that the city streets and the Stampede grounds would be ready.

The TOYS “R” US store in Calgary’s northwest was buzzing with excitement as the players of Canada’s National Junior Hockey Team hit the floor running to collect toys for The Salvation Army Christmas Program. Hundreds of Calgary children will have a special gift to open on Christmas morning due to the generous donations made by Canada Post employees from depots across the city.

Canada Post has participated in The Salvation Army’s Angel Giving Tree Tag Program for a number of years. The program helps families who are struggling to provide Christmas gifts for their children, and this year the employees of Canada Post in Calgary bought gifts for over 1,000 children!
