Good Times at our 3rd Annual Stampede Breakfast


Yahoo! Live music, line dancing, kids games, plenty of pancakes and a beautiful sunny day made for good times for all at the 3rd Annual Barbara Mitchell Family Resource Centre Stampede Breakfast. Sally Ann donned her cowgirl hat and joined in on the fun – playing twister with the kids and learning how to line dance! It was great to see so many families out enjoying the event and getting into the Stampede spirit!

On Saturday, June 20, Salvation Army staff in Calgary hosted an event to celebrate the Army's 150 years of international service. A large group of youth from Glenmore Temple came out to hand out free mini donuts to guests entering Heritage Park and give Shield tattoos and buttons to the kids. Family Day Dinner Brings Everyone Together at the Centre of Hope


Family Day at The Salvation Army’s Centre of Hope in Calgary was a little extra-special this year. A roast beef dinner was served, but not just to their own residents. This year, residents invited friends and family, as well as the homeless from the community and other shelters. With the help of many helpful volunteers, 585 people were served in just 2 hours!

Commissioner Susan McMillan, Territorial Commander for The Salvation Army Canada & Bermuda Territory, made her first official visit to the Alberta & Northern Territories Division last week. A site visit was made to several of the facilities in Calgary on Friday, January 22, 2015, including Agape Hospice, Centre of Hope, and the Barbara Mitchell Family Resource Centre where a Messy Church event was held.

It was a busy lunch hour at the Calgary Police Service Headquarters on Friday, December 19th as officers joined representatives from Encana and The Salvation Army to help wrap up this year’s Toy Angels campaign. Over the past few weeks, Calgarians have donated new toys to various drop-off locations around the city, including Calgary Police Service district offices. The Salvation Army hosted its annual Hope in the City luncheon on Wednesday, November 12 at the Hyatt Regency in Calgary. The event had 700 guests in attendance from corporate Calgary and featured guest speaker Brian Burke, President of Hockey Operations with the Calgary Flames. Residents and business owners located in parts of downtown Calgary on October 11, 2014, were left without power for four and half days due to an Enmax fire and power outage. The disruption of services affected over five-thousand residents and tens of thousands of workers. Thankfully, The Salvation Army was there to provide support.

Salvation Army Band Celebrates 100 Years Marching In Parade


Salvation Army band members beamed with excitement as they loaded a school bus bright and early Friday morning, July 4, 2014. This day would mark a major milestone for The Salvation Army Band, as they would celebrate 100 years of marching in the Calgary Stampede Parade.

The weather was perfect; clear skies and warm temperatures accompanied the band along the 4.5 kilometre parade route. Thousands of onlookers cheered on the band as they marched in the world famous parade.

Calgarians Celebrate Doughnut Day at Heritage Park


On Saturday, June 14, 2014, The Salvation Army in Calgary celebrated Doughnut Day at Heritage Park. Conversations between Heritage Park visitors and Salvation Army staff were plentiful during the Doughnut Day celebrations.
