Salvation Army Responds To Fort McMurray Fire


The Salvation Army is deploying two Community Response Units to assist with feeding 800 first responders engaged in the Fort McMurray fire response efforts. Two additional response units are preparing to arrive in the area in the next 24 hours.

All Salvation Army Officers and staff in Fort McMurray were safely evacuated to several different locations yesterday. There is no information on the status of Salvation Army properties in Fort McMurray.

The area around Brooks, Alberta has been hit hard by the downturn in the oil and gas industry. Many oil field workers are unemployed or have had their hours cut back significantly. Employment Insurance benefits have run out for many or they didn’t qualify to begin with because they were self-employed contractors. Families are running through their savings and many don’t qualify for social assistance. Some are facing the possible loss of their homes and/or vehicles.

Women’s Outreach Hosting Info Night April 3rd


The Salvation Army Women’s Outreach Van is out on the streets of Edmonton every night assisting addicted, homeless, and marginalized women. An information night is being held on Sunday, April 3 at 6:30 pm at the Edmonton Crossroads Community Church (11611 95 Street) and is open to women interested in volunteering on the van or learning more about this important outreach program.
