On April 29th, an enthusiastic team of women in orange T-shirts appeared at The Salvation Army’s Community and Family Services (CFS) in Edmonton and, on that one day, demonstrated the true spirit of community involvement and corporate partnership.

Our story starts a few weeks ago when Major Carolyn Hale, Executive Director of CFS, was contacted by Home Depot. In a conversation that was almost too good to be true, they asked if there were any renovations needed that they might be able to help with. CFS is a very busy place that offers a wide range of programs and services throughout the week, from food hampers & assistance to counselling and hot meals. Being a high traffic facility, there are always renovations and updates that are needed but, as is the case with all non-profits, these are not always a priority when working with a limited operating budget. After careful consideration, Major Hale said, “Yes!”

Many areas and rooms could benefit from some upgrading, and after some discussion it was decided that the public bathrooms could use the renovations the most. New sinks, toilets, paint, flooring, and more, would all be part of the Home Depot Orange Women’s Network (OWN) undertaking. The most incredible part of this project; it would be done in ONE day at NO cost to The Salvation Army!

“What a blessing it was for Home Depot Orange Women’s Network to come and help us – at no cost to us”, said Major Hale. “We are very grateful for the hard work of these 15 women, and this project allows us to free up funds to better serve our clients.”

This project was transformational and we would like to thank the Orange Women’s Network, and everyone at Home Depot, for their hard work. Many hands working together, united in the desire to make our communities better, can accomplish amazing things.
