On Wednesday, March 19, 2014, teachers, parents and a group of students from Samuel W. Shaw School enjoyed a comprehensive tour of The Calgary Stampeders home turf at McMahon Stadium after winning our annual Coat Drive Challenge last fall.

“It’s encouraging to see the younger generation take an active role in helping the impoverished in Calgary,” says Randy Tronsgard, Charitable Gift Advisor (Major Gifts) for The Salvation Army. “Far too many Calgarians don’t have the proper clothing to stay warm, but then these amazing young philanthropists get involved, and our job of caring for the homeless gets a little bit easier!”

The students collected almost 200 coats, and received a full tour of the locker rooms, press box, and even got to run the field, emulating their favorite Calgary Stampeders players!

The 2013 Salvation Army Calgary Stampeders Coat Drive collected over 4000 coats, up from 400 in 2012!
