Over 30,000 toys were collected during the Toy Angels campaign between November 6 to December 20, 2013, and that means thousands of Calgary kids had something special waiting for them to open on Christmas morning.

“It’s incredible, it takes your breath away, to look upon the mountain of toys piled high to the ceiling,” expresses Karen Livick, Executive Director for The Salvation Army Community Services (Calgary). “Can you imagine the look on the faces of hundreds of children opening their gifts on Christmas morning? I can tell you, the emotional impact is huge, and long-lasting!”

It took swarms of volunteers gathered at Calgary Police headquarters on the morning of Friday, December 20th, to help load The Salvation Army Community Services truck with the toys collected through the various Calgary Police Services locations. In fact, there were so many toys, the five ton truck had to make a second trip! And that’s not all, in a last minute gesture of good-will, an extremely thoughtful Calgarian donated $10,000 worth of Lego.

“It takes countless hours of hard work and planning to run Calgary’s largest toy drive,” explains Captain Pam Goodyear, Divisional Secretary of Public Relations and Development for The Salvation Army. “We are very grateful to have such a devoted group of compassionate people from Lite FM (now known as KISS FM), Encana and The Calgary Police Service. They have really outdone themselves again this year!”

The Salvation Army wishes to acknowledge the overwhelming support from countless Calgarians who generously donated to the Toy Angels Campaign. The success of this year’s toy drive shows that Calgarians care about those struggling to get by, and are always willing to give Hope to those in need!
