With the help of Olympic champion Jennifer Heil, The Salvation Army officially launched our annual Christmas Kettle Campaign in Edmonton at the Hope in the City breakfast on Friday, November 15, 2013! Our goal this year is to raise $500,000 between November 14th and Christmas Eve.

At last year’s inaugural event, we raised $100,000 to start off the campaign, and this year we raised $88,250.00! This is an amazing start to an intense, 5 week campaign that supports year-round programs at The Salvation Army’s Community & Family Services (CFS), located just east of the downtown core. CFS provides Christmas hampers, and toys, as well as food hampers, meal planning, camps for kids, hot breakfast every Friday, counselling, tax services, and seniors’ programs throughout the year.

Jennifer spoke to the crowd of the importance of having her community behind her in order to be successful, and to fulfill her dream of becoming an Olympic champion. The same can be said of The Salvation Army, as we fulfill dreams with the help of the community too; it could be a shelter bed, food for Christmas dinner, toys under the tree, or fellowship and a hot meal.

We’d like to thank our generous sponsors for supporting the Hope in the City breakfast and our work. By standing with us, you stand with those who need us. Platinum Sponsors – Flaman Fitness and Violet Chocolate Co., Bronze Sponsor – All Weather Windows, and Echo Promotions – Promotional Sponsor.

This year in Edmonton, we will need 9000 volunteer hours to cover the 39 kettle locations over 34 days between November 14 and Christmas Eve. A few hours on the kettle will feed two people, and since we can’t leave a kettle unmanned, no volunteers means no money for the kettle.

If you are interested in volunteering, please email us at edmonton_kettles@can.salvationarmy.org or call 780-423-2111 ext. 241 for more info and available locations. Also, if you would like to help the campaign at your office, counter-top kettles are available for the Kettles @ Work program.

Thank you to everyone who attended the Hope in the City breakfast! Through your support, you are helping us Give Hope Today.
