The heart-felt story of guest speaker, Mr. Frank Vizcarra helped to inspire over six-hundred supporters of The Salvation Army during the annual Hope in the City Kettle Kick-off Luncheon at the Hyatt Regency, Calgary.

Vizcarra’s childhood was tragic, growing up in extreme poverty in Mexico, including having to beg on the streets just to pay for a grade school education. But through the help of  mentors and a strong faith in God, Vizcarra was able to get a post-secondary education in the United States and go on to become a highly recognized professional soccer player in the American Soccer League. Later he became the Cooperate Vice President of Strategy, Innovation and Franchise Relations for McDonalds, as well as founding a number of non-profit organizations. Vizcarra also highlighted his deep sense of gratitude towards The Salvation Army. He recalls countess occasions in which The Salvation Army provided his family with food, clothing and other necessities after arriving in the United States.

The purpose of the Hope in the City luncheon is to bring awareness to the tremendous need and encourage local businesses and corporations to partner with The Salvation Army. Donations from the kettles go directly towards funding programs and services which are aimed at helping Calgary’s less fortunate.

The Salvation Army in Calgary wishes to thank their Silver Sponsors, Stuart Olson Dominion and Remington Development Corporation and all those who contributed in making this year’s Hope in the City Kettle Kick-off Luncheon a success!
