Benefits of Year-End Donations

As the year winds down, The Salvation Army is asking Canadians to keep them in mind when they are considering donating to charity.

Donations are critical to The Salvation Army’s survival and are used to, not only help those in need at Christmas but, fund various programs and services—services that address practical needs such as food, clothing and shelter. Last year The Salvation Army helped 1.8 million people, that’s 5,000 people every day.

Your year-end gift can significantly reduce your income taxes while providing meaningful support for The Salvation Army.

Note: In order to qualify for a 2012 tax receipt, funds must be received by The Salvation Army or postmarked by Canada Post by December 31, 2012. Gifts of securities or mutual funds must be received in The Salvation Army’s account by December 31. It is important that donors allow a few business days for their financial institutions/advisors to complete actual transfer of securities prior to that date.

“Demand for Salvation Army services continues to increase,” says Graham Moore, Territorial Public Relations and Development Secretary for The Salvation Army in Canada and Bermuda. “Thousands of vulnerable Canadians rely on The Salvation Army year-round and we are grateful for the generosity of our donors who partner with us to provide them with a sense of dignity and hope.”

If you still wish to give, donations can be made online, by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY (725-2769), or via mail to The Salvation Army, 2 Overlea Blvd, Toronto, ON M4H 1P4.
