Back-to-school help in Halifax is a community effort. Linda Elliott started giving away supplies from her Bedford home, starting with about 12 backpacks. She partnered with the Salvation Army three years ago.
Almost 150 brand-new backpacks full of pencils, paper, binders, crayons, glue and other school supplies were given to struggling families Wednesday at the Salvation Army on Gottingen Street, a week before school starts in Halifax.
The younger crowd in the Salvation Army on Wednesday morning could barely move by the time volunteers were done with them.
