HUNTSVILLE—Aside from attending a sports camp in Moldova where she was born, Yuliia had never been to the kind of camp that is a traditional rite of passage for many Canadian kids.
So when the opportunity arose to go to Newport Adventure Camp, the 14-year-old couldn’t wait to get there.
After only a few days, she’d checked off a long list of activities she’d never done before — like swimming in a lake, paddling a canoe and kayak, as well as climbing a high ropes course and practising survival skills.
