The Salvation Army Guelph Thrift Store has been recognized as an outstanding employer by The Employment Coordination Committee (ECC), of Guelph and Wellington County.
The distinction is given to employers who have demonstrated leadership in providing work experience, training and community placement opportunities for individuals facing employment difficulties or who require workplace experience.
“It is an amazing honour to be acknowledged for our commitment to providing work opportunities and skills development to people in our local community,” said Deanne Roberts, Manager of the Guelph Thrift Store.
“The Salvation Army exists to support and respond to the needs of the community and we are very happy to know that our efforts are having a positive impact on the growth and prosperity of Guelph and Wellington County.”
Barb Poulos, Vocational Support Worker, is a member of the ECC and has worked with Deanne on numerous occasions to find work opportunities for her diverse clients. She nominated the Guelph Thrift Store as an employer deserving of recognition.
“The Salvation Army Thrift Store under the management of Deanne Roberts has provided a volunteer placement which turned into a permanent job when other employers would not,” said Poulos.
“Deanne has worked with our program to provide as many accommodations as possible to help ensure the success of our clients, and she has been very patient in implementing a supportive work environment to allow for growth on the job. Deanne and The Salvation Army are prime examples of what believing and working together can accomplish.”
On Friday, May 25, 2012, the ECC will host the 22nd annual Employment Recognition Breakfast to applaud The Salvation Army and other employers who have made a significant contribution to the social and economic well-being of the Guelph community.
The event will take place at the Italian Canadian Club located at 135 Ferguson Street from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Congratulations to Deanne and the entire Guelph Thrift Store team on this wonderful achievement! Thank you all for serving as leaders in your community.
