Salvation Army Aids Victims of Sutton Fire

A fire broke out at a townhouse complex in Sutton, Ont., just over an hour northeast of Toronto, forcing more than 100 people out of their homes early Monday.

Salvation Army personnel were immediately on the scene providing refreshments and support.

Emergency efforts are being coordinated by The Salvation Army through the Sutton Youth Shelter at 20898 Dalton Rd., where donations of food, clothing and personal items will be accepted.

The residents will likely be displaced for some time. Some families have lost everything.

  1. Where should we bring donations of food, clothing and personal items for the victims of the July 11 fire is Sutton? What is most needed at this time?

  2. What is most needed? I will be donating plus size womens clothing. But what else is urgently required? Where is the drop off we live in Keswick. If volunteer time is required please let me know. Thanks Jo-Anne

  3. We are picking up our son from camp on Friday evening at The Salvation Army Jacksons Point HMI camp. We have family living one block away from the fire and were there the night it happened, we could smell the heavy smoke and hear all of the emergency response vehicles throughout the night! What a tradgedy for these families.

Please let us know what is needed and we can bring things with us,

You are in our Prayers, Blessings from Kingston

  5. Hey Jen and Jo-Anne,

I’m not sure if anyone has gotten back to you yet. I don’t work for the Salvation Army, but I have been volunteering on weeknights to help arrange and transfer donations. Right now, Donations are being accepted at the Sutton Youth Shelter on Dalton Road. We have been offering our time to transport those items across the road to the old Sutton Public School which is now the Youth “Centre” for effective storage.

There is likely always something that can be done to help out. I’d suggest stopping by the shelter at any point. You should be able to talk to Sue, or Grant at the shelter for direction (although they have been ridiculously busy!).

I don’t know much more than this, but anyone at or around the shelter can help guide you in the right direction.

  6. As a victim of the fire, I can’t thank everyone enough for your generosity, good thoughts and prayers. You have no idea how much it means to us all.

    Eternally grateful
    Dale
