Winnipeg, MB – The Salvation Army has begun assisting the City of Winnipeg and surrounding Regional Municipalities with flood preparations. Often the first on the scene and the last to leave, Salvation Army canteens (mobile feeding trucks), officers, volunteers and seasoned disaster relief personnel are on call at various locations providing services such as food, water, personal care kits and emotional and spiritual care to flood victims and first responders.

Already this flood season, The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services team in partnership with several corporations such as Walmart, Home Depot, Tim Hortons, Domo and the Winnipeg Convention Centre, has provided meals and much needed support to more than 5000 volunteers and homeowners who are building sand dikes in preparation for the fast approaching flood waters. This week, The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services team has been involved in flood preparations at Kingston Row and Scotia Street in the city of Winnipeg, as well as the communities of St. Norbert and St. Agathe.
