All during the day of December 18, 2009, The Salvation Army and Urgences-Santé (Medic team) will deliver Christmas hampers to the homes of fifty disadvantaged families in the Montreal region. Delivery trucks loaded with hampers will leave The Salvation Army building.
All families receiving hampers have been previously interviewed to determine their admissibility to the Christmas hamper program. Those who are not able to pick up their hampers (large families, elderly people, and handicapped people, etc.) may have them delivered by Urgences-Santé. “Everyone loves to have a special meal during the festive season. This aspect of our program prevents anyone from being penalized. If they aren’t able to come to us, we will come to them.” Givette Volet, Director of Family Services of The Salvation Army, stated.
The Christmas hampers, worth $250 each, include everything needed for a hearty and delicious Christmas dinner, plus toiletry items and children’s toys.
From December 21 through 23, The Salvation Army will welcome the rest of the approved recipients on-site at Richardson Street to give them their well-stocked Christmas hampers. 1,500 hampers will be distributed.
