Will the Tough Economy Affect Your Christmas Spending?

salvationarmy_christmasspendingA new Ipsos Reid poll indicates that one half (47%) of Canadians will spend less this holiday season than last year. On the flip side, 45% of Canadians expect to spend roughly the same amount of money than they spent last year.

  1. The slumping economy led to loss of my job in mid-November, so we’ll be scaling back quite a bit. This year we have a budget which will allow for a main gift under the tree, and a few extras in the stocking, mostly things we needed anyway. Our extended family has also faced a hard year, so everyone has agreed to an extremely modest budget for the kids’ gifts (none for the adults), and most importantly will be enjoying each others’ company and good food together.
