Bells and kettles still alleviating poverty throughout Canada

The Salvation Army estimates that approximately 3.5 million Canadians—or 10 per cent of the national population—are currently living in poverty. Meeting their day-to-day needs is a gargantuan task—one that no single social services agency can achieve on its own.

As the largest non-government supplier of social services in Canada, The Salvation Army directs support to more than 1.5 million people each year. Much of the funding required for its efforts comes directly from the organization’s various charitable events. The Santa Shuffle is one of the more recognizable of these, and will be held in 35 cities across Canada on December 5, in tandem with the Running Room. Read full article…
