Peel Region – On September 2nd, members of Peel Regional Police delivered the latest of more than 240 backpacks filled with school supply goodies for the Region’s Salvation Army. An additional $2,000 in school supplies was donated by CCSI Technology Solutions Corporation in Mississauga.
The program, originally spearheaded by Sleep Country Canada’s Christine McGee, gave Peel Police the perfect opportunity to expand on the work they do with youth in the community.
The Erin Mills Salvation Army’s Family Services Coordinator, Lynne Marshall-Best, brought along extra pairs of hands when she arrived at the Sleep Country store to pick up the backpacks. Captains Ron Wickens and Terrance Hale pulled up with vans just big enough for the haul and everyone pitched in to load them.
Surveying the neatly stacked backpacks amassed in the store’s show room, Lynne Marshall-Best declared with confidence that every child who is registered with her organization would welcome the first day of school with a brand new pack stuffed with the tools of learning.
