Salvation Army Emergency Disaster services is providing meals daily for sandbaggers who are fighting ice jams along the Red River. As rising waters threaten hundreds of homes, the worst may be yet to come.
The feeding has been undertaken as a joint venture with Salvation Army personnel and the Retired Fire Fighters of Winnipeg. At each feeding, personnel from both The Salvation Army and RRFF are present.
In addition to the ongoing feeding, The Salvation Army is making plans to assist at a reception centre in Winnipeg for possible evacuees from southern Manitoba.
Emergency Management Operations Manager for Winnipeg, Mr. Randy Hull, indicates that The Salvation Army will not be needed within the city at this point, but should remain on standby for any anticipated flooding in the week ahead.
