The HIV/AIDS epidemic is responsible for eight deaths every hour in Malawi, Africa. Manjita Biswas, Overseas Programs Consultant for The Salvation Army Canada and Bermuda is currently in Malawi where The Salvation Army conducted an HIV/AIDS awareness campaign. More than 2,500 people attended to learn about prevention, treatment and care.
Seventy percent of hospital deaths are a result of HIV/AIDS and more than 400,000 children, under 15, have been orphaned by HIV/AIDS. Critical interventions are needed. The Salvation Army Canada and Bermuda, in partnership with CIDA (Canadian International Development Agency) are funding and taking positive steps in Malawi towards minimizing the spread of HIV/AIDS and providing quality care and support for those living with it.
