Following the August 15 earthquake in Peru, The Salvation Army Canada and Bermuda Territory has sent 50,000 USD in relief aid. Canadian Salvation Army officer Lt. Col. Susan McMillan is the second-in-command of The Salvation Army Western South America, and she reports from Santiago, Chile on the current situation and how the Canadian relief aid is being used.

Peru Chinca Alta and the region is rated by USGS as one of the most severe earthquakes and the event associates with deep seated p compression forces on the west side of the Pacific Plate, which rotates against the NAZCA east side, subduction occurring under what some South American analysts have described as a shallow angle that becomes almost flat into Andean Peru mainland (10 degree). My interest was captured by TV analysis from local journalist who travelled south and said the people had left the fishing village due to concern as the sea had vacated the area and a tsunami was expected, it is possible the land rose, whether the area has returned to fishing is not known.
