July 6th, 2007, (RIO GRANDE CITY) – The Salvation Army Texas Division continues to reach out to assist flood victims from the Rio Grande River in south Texas to the Oklahoma border in north central Texas. In Rio Grande City, The Army has been feeding flood victims and disaster personnel at a local shelter at Ringgold Middle School for four days. According to Incident Commander Captain Dan Ford, the organization will set up a distribution center and social casework center that hopes to be in operation by Monday, July 9. Ford estimates that 160 homes were submerged in water because of the heavy rains. Volunteers and crews are also providing meals by a mobile feeding kitchen in heavily flooded areas and distributing clean-up kits and personal hygiene kits to needy residents. The Salvation Army in McAllen is also serving those affected by sparse flooding in Edinburg and Weslaco.
(WICHITA FALLS, TX) Four disaster crews remain on the scene in north central Texas where officials are hoping that flood waters completely recede in hard-hit areas by this weekend. The Salvation Army is serving food, water, clean-up kits, and hygiene kits to those affected by the disaster at the local Family Assistance Center on Seymour Highway off Loop 11. Army personnel are also providing vouchers for furniture, clothing and bedding to those displaced by the flooding.
Along with meals and cleanup kits, other assistance is also being offered at several other areas of Texas including Eastland, Parker County, Sherman, and Gainesville. Local crews are distributing furniture, clothing, household items, and several other items.
