The Salvation Army is responding after deadly storms ripped through the Midwest this weekend. Tornadoes in Kansas killed at least 10 people and destroyed whole communities. The storms also left many areas devastated by flooding

Three Salvation Army emergency disaster services vehicles (canteens) were deployed to Greensburg, Kan., a town that was 95 percent destroyed by the storms. An additional canteen is stationed in the town of Truesdale. From the canteens Salvation Army emergency disaster services personnel are serving food and beverage and providing a respite to emergency responders, National Guard troops and Greensburg residents as they return to town to search for belongings.

Salvation Army officers (ministers) are continuing to offer emotional and spiritual care to tornado survivors. Through Sunday The Salvation Army has distributed vouchers to 280 individuals allowing them to purchase basic necessities such as food, clothing, personal care items and prescriptions.
