March 30, 2007 – Kansas – The Salvation Army responded after a slow, deadly storm system ripped through the Plains producing at least 68 tornadoes in six states, hail as big as baseballs and blizzards in Colorado and Wyoming.
Salvation Army emergency disaster services (EDS) personnel in Kansas brought relief after extreme northwest Kansas was hit by violent storms including a tornado that touched down in Cheyenne County.
“We are offering financial assistance for shelter, food, clothing and other immediate needs to anyone who experienced property damage as a result of the tornado that hit our county,” said Dolores Jenik, Cheyenne County treasurer and Salvation Army representative in Bird City, Kan. “We’re anxious to hear from anyone who may need our help. We don’t want to overlook anyone who may be suffering.”
The Salvation Army in Denver, Colo., deployed a Salvation Army emergency disaster services vehicle (canteen) and EDS team to Holly, Colo., after a devastating tornado ripped through the small town on the Kansas border. The Salvation Army canteen is located at the Holly Junior/Senior High School. Additional EDS teams and canteens will be deployed today to bring additional aid the area. The Salvation Army anticipates serving 1,200 meals a day as well as snacks and beverages to residents and emergency responders.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Holly community. The Salvation Army will be in Holly providing assistance as long as needed,” said Lieutenant Gerald Koch, Salvation Army EDS coordinator in Colorado.
