The Salvation Army Responds to Tornado Victims in Dale County, Alabama

Enterprise, Ala.– In the afternoon hours of March 1, 2007, a strong line of storms moved across Mississippi and Alabama, spawning tornadoes across the southern half of Alabama near Enterprise, Alabama. The Salvation Army of Dale County and The Salvation Army in Dothan have dispatched mobile feeding support to provide assistance and warm meals to those affected by the storms as well as support to First responders in the area.

Bill Feist, Emergency Disaster Services Director for The Salvation Army, said “We have placed two units on standby, to proceed into the area after storms pass, to offer coffee, donuts, and warm meals, as well as emotional and spiritual care to those affected by today’s storms.”

“Our heart goes out to those affected by the recent flurry of tornadoes. The Salvation Army has responded to each of the areas and will provide whatever relief we can to those who have been touched by this disaster,” said Major John Jones, Divisional Commander for The Salvation Army Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi Division. The Army stands ready to serve. Our practical response will also be under girded by our prayer support for the victims of these tornados.”

Feist added that a feeding unit from Dothan will be deployed to Enterprise, Alabama, prepared to serve dinner as well as throughout the night. By the end of the day, The Salvation Army should know more about the type of assistance needed and how it will go about providing it.

Major Darryl Kingsbury of The Salvation Army in Montgomery will be representing The Salvation Army at the Alabama State Emergency Operations Center, providing support and coordination for Salvation Army efforts throughout Alabama.

“We are in communication with Emergency operations centers across Alabama, offering our assistance to areas affected by the storms,” Feist added. “Additionally, The Salvation Army in Montgomery is prepared to respond to the area if called upon.”
