Commissioner Christine MacMillan Pays Visits El Ropero

elropera.jpgSantiago, Chile – During a visit to the South America West Territory, Commissioner Christine MacMillan paid a visit to the territory’s new Recycling Business. The Canada and Bermuda Territory was helpful in sending the first container of used clothing to be sold in the Santiago, Chile store. In addition, a clothing bailer was donated so that rags could be sold to wholesalers.

Commissioner MacMillan first visited the warehouse, at the same time as Major Bernt Olaf Oersnes of the Norway Territory. Norway has also promised to assist with the start-up costs of this new income generation program.

Then the Commissioner visited the store “El Ropero” (the Clothes Closet) which is located in downtown Santiago. The store was busy with Christmas Shoppers, but the Commissioner had opportunity to speak with Major Domingo Negrete, Director of Enterprise Development for South America West.

A second store is slated to open in Valparaiso, Chile on March 1st, and there are plans for another store in Santiago, and one in Punta Arenas. The territory’s goal is to one day be self sufficient, without need for subsidies from the Self Denial Fund.
