The Salvation Army Responds to Louisiana Floods

Lake Charles, LA. - (October 27,2006) – In the early morning hours of October 26, a system of severe storms began sweeping through rain soaked southwest Louisiana spawning flash flooding and rising rivers and creeks.

In the Southwest Louisiana parishes of Calcasieu and Beauregard, heavy rains have caused flooding, forcing many to seek higher ground or to be rescued by the National Guard.

A mobile feeding unit and personnel from The Salvation Army in Lake Charles, Louisiana led by Captain David Sams, is responding to meet needs of Emergency responders and victims in the Louisiana city of Moss Bluff. Immediate plans are to provide feeding assistance, clean up kits, and emotional support to victims of the storm and emergency responders.

“The Salvation Army is responding to wide range heavy flooding in the Moss Bluff Area,” said Captain David Sams. “We are staging a canteen and providing clean up kits. About 600 Clean-up kits are currently available, with more in reserves throughout South Louisiana.”

In Louisiana, The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster response teams are preparing for service in areas hit hardest by the floods. The Salvation Army is working with local and state agencies to gauge the need for response by Disaster services teams.
