The Salvation Army continues to respond to the needs of rescue workers and provide social services to those who have been displaced in the wake of New England’s recent flooding. Fifteen assistance locations in Southern Maine, New Hampshire, and along the North Shore of Massachusetts are serving families and individuals.
Officers, case workers and volunteers will continue to serve displaced residents at assistance locations in Lawrence, Lowell, Saugus, Methuen and Peabody with hot meals, clean up kits, various social services, and spiritual counseling, for the remainder of the weekend. Volunteers, to date, have donated over 350 hours of their time serving daily meals to more than 2,000 flood victims who have lost their homes and businesses.
“The destruction is devastating. Some of these people have lost everything,” comments Major Robert Klenk, officer of The Salvation Army Haverhill Corps. “We’ll be here providing hot meals, an array of social services and spiritual guidance for as long as we’re needed.”
As the rain continues, we ask those who are looking for a way to assist our relief effort to make monetary donations via our website at www.salvationarmyusa.org or send checks to 147 Berkeley St., Boston, MA 02116. Please earmark all donations “2006 FLOOD RELIEF”.
