Worship is always best if the greatest percentages of attendees are actually participating in worship. Teaching children the importance of worship is one of the meaningful aspects of our ministry at The Salvation Army High Point Community Church in Victoria, B.C. Our aim is for our children to come to know Jesus and for their lives to be changed as a result. As in any relationship, we get to know God by communicating with him. Worship is a gift that enables each of us to do that.
We honour and respect God in all of our Bible classes and on Sunday mornings. We also have a group for young girls that use their bodies to glorify the Lord, showing Him great love and admiration. This is our Gospel Arts program.
In this program they learn dance, musical signing, creative movement and the tambourine. They also use different postures of worship for prayer times (prostrate, face down, heads and hands raised). We are teaching these young girls the importance of worship and how their own personal gifts can be used to glorify and praise God. It is our hope that as they connect with the Lord using their whole body they will also begin to view their bodies differently and the pressures of image will decrease as their love for the Lord increases.
We give the young girls opportunity to perform the pieces they produce. This helps give them a confidence within themselves but it also edifies the body of believers as they too discover different ways to worship God.
Service is also an integral part of this program. They regularly go to our local seniors centre and perform for them and they are looking forward to assisting the ministry of The Salvation Army in other corps.
We thank the Lord for opening up this ministry and pray for his blessing upon the ministry but also upon the life of each girl involved herein.
