Salvation Army Responds to Philippines Mudslide

Atlanta, Georgia: Commissioner Robin Dunster, Territorial Commander of The Philippines has sent the following initial report on local Salvation Army units responding to the mudslide catastrophe in that country.

Captain Diosdado Cano (Cantamuak Corps, Leyte) & Major Bionone Laplana (R) reached, with difficulty, the area yesterday. We do not have any vehicles in the field, there. Decision will be made at territorial headquarters over the next 24 hours regarding ferrying our Manila based vehicle with support personnel.

The officers already there report 3,650 persons sheltering in a school near the disaster area. Besides providing a spiritual ministry, they have begun canvasing for prices to supply food, blankets, sleeping mats & mosquito nets.
